Wow...am I really this behind on blogging.

Back in September I got to fly back out to my old musical stomping grounds (Fayetteville, AR) to spend some time with some of my best friends from the band days, to shoot promo shots for their new band/ep. You might remember the "water in yo face" post from a while back, but I did want to share some of the other hilarious shots from the weekend. Plus, while we were there I did some photos for Dave Wilson too. He's a producer/engineer living in Nashville, but was our horn player back in the day, so it's basically like a huge fraternity getting back together to make music and have a blast the entire time. Dave is building his business and needed a couple shots for his website.

I can't wait for everyone to hear the tunes that they recorded for Boom! Kinetic and for Zach Gump (one of the singer's from BK is also doing a solo project), but here are a couple of my favorite images from the weekend.

Fall has flown by!

The fact that it's November 15th blows my mind. It's been such a whirlwind for me at work, at home (with baby #2 on the way) and with more and more photography work. This blog is starting to take more and more of a shift towards the photography side of things, and I've realized just how much work I've never posted. Is it possible to tell how musically gifted someone is by just looking at a picture???

Obviously the answer is pretty much a "NO"...but after I was blessed to shoot Chrystina Fincher and the Buckhead Church worship band 2 Sundays ago, I was convinced it was possible. Chrystina and the band are some of the most professional, talented, and engaging musicians I've seen...period...I'm not just talking about Christian musicians. They just flat out rock, and the funny thing, after looking at these pictures on my camera was that even without sound, the band looks like they're really good. Maybe it's just the lights, maybe it's the fact that I was listening to them while snapping away, or maybe its the fact that as professional musicians, they've spent years and years not only getting better at their instruments, but also getting better at looking at ease on stage. Either way, they rock...thanks Carlos for having me back out to shoot!!!

The other thing that's been cool about shooting at Buckhead Church is that I've realized that my taking pictures can be an act of worship to God. Especially when taking pictures of worship, but also when taking pictures of God's creation whether it's a mountain, a person, or a reflection that a puddle creates. How cool is that?! I just came away from Sunday thinking about how I, through the entire 3 song practice I ran around the empty auditorium trying to get shot after shot, furiously snapping away, but in my head I was singing and worshiping God with Chrystina and the band. It was a cool moment for me and an amazing reminder that God delights in us enjoying the things he gives us.

Stevo's Latest Music Reviews Vol. 16

It's 2008 and I'm ringing in the new year with some new "Jamz" courtesy of the numerous iTunes gift cards I received over the holidays. There are a bunch of CDs that I really want to get my hands on, but this band I finally discovered has my ears, and possibly my heart. ;)

AS TALL AS LIONS


If you're in the mood for a great Rock band, with an unbelievable lead singer...check these guys out. I think they may have been around a while, but I'm just thankful I finally found them. One thing I love about these guys is that they're so good dynamically, making the songs swell and move you, as opposed to having a constant sound that gives you one constant emotion through a song...these guys do a great job of pulling you into their songs and taking you for a ride.

Give 'em your ear for a few minutes on iTunes and I promise you won't be disappointed.
